Jot Gunter, Jr.

Jot Gunter, Jr., of Pauls Valley, was born November 1, 1916 in Antioch, Oklahoma to Brunettie Jane (Passmore) and Jot Gunter, Sr.

He entered life eternal August 16, 2012 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma at the age of 95 years.

He was married to LaJuana (Hatman) Gunter, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma on June 1, 1938. During World War II he worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps (C.C.C.).

Jot was one of the last old-time Cowboys. He used to break horses and herd cattle and was known for the "Bramhas" that he raised. For a time he worked for the Blanton Ranch and later worked as Livestock Manager for Mark Loftis at the Pauls Valley Livestock Sale Barn in Pauls Valley that used to be across Rush Creek. In 1952 he began working in the oil fields. But his dream was always to be a Cowboy.

He was a Charter Member of the Beaty Church and has made this area his home all of his life.

Jot was preceded in death by his parents, Jot, Sr. and Brunettie Gunter; his wife of over 73 years, LaJuana Gunter, at her passing on October 25, 2011; a sister, Winnie Guthrie; a brother; and six other siblings who died in infancy and a son-in-law, Cary Bowie.

Surviving family include his four children, LaRieta Louise Huckabaa and her husband, Junior, of Perkins; Peggy Sue Campbell and her husband, Ken, of Springer; Chloe Juan Dickerson and her husband, Dave, of Liberty, Missouri; and Lydia Gayle "George" Bowie, of Pauls Valley; 9 grandchildren, Lori June Focht, Robin Baker, Shannon Schroeder, Sherrianne "Cricket" Maddox, Michelle Campbell, Tracy Hansen, Clay Dickerson, Mistie Turner and Jeremy Gibson; 18 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren, and a niece, Mary Jane Myers, of Pauls Valley.

A special time for Family and Friends to gather for visitation will be Tuesday evening, August 21, 2012, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at 10:00 am at Stufflebean-Coffey Chapel of Remembrance officiated by Rev. Ken Campbell and assisted by Pastor Stephen Reid. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
