In Loving Memory Of

Martha Ann Elizabeth Williams

Long time resident, Martha Ann Elizabeth Williams, age 95, passed away July 27, 2009. Martha was born October 17, 1913 in St. Louis, Ok. Her parents were Will and Allie (Bean) Jackson. She graduated from Union Springs High School. John W. Williams and Martha were married on December 24, 1937 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. They were parents of two sons and two daughters.

Martha worked for twenty-nine years for the Pauls Valley Public School System. She was administrator of the school lunch program. She was an active member of the First Christian Church until her health prohibited her form attending. Martha served in the church in several capacities. Faith, family and education were very important to her.

Martha loved to go. Shopping was her favorite hobby and she didn't care what kind of store it was. It could be a grocery store, mall, or a variety store. She loved to look at things she had no intention of buying.

In her mid-70's Martha took up bowling. She preferred bowling with younger people because she said older people complained too much about their aches and pains.

Martha was a spunky, head-strong lady and was able to maintain her own home and lived alone until she was 93.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband, John Williams; parents, Will and Allie Jackson; sisters, Eula Jackson and Louisa Garland; son-in-law, Don Russell and daughter-in-law, Saundra Williams.

Survivors include her sons, Larry Williams and wife Amy of Newport, Arkansas, Jim Williams and wife Debra of Lindsay, Oklahoma; daughters, Junelle Rafferty and husband Charlie of Vinita, Oklahoma and Johnnie Russell of Norman, Oklahoma. Grandchildren include Kevin Williams, Sheri Williams, Christie Battenfield, Alan Rafferty, Mark Russell, Jennifer Robinson and Stacy Duncan; eight great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews including special niece Elizabeth Garrison of Pauls Valley.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Williams, Alan Rafferty, Mark Russell, Paul Battenfield, Joel Duncan and Steve Robinson.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Stufflebean Chapel of Remembrance officiated by Rev. Tom Buzbee. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.

~ Words of Care and Concern From Family and Friends ~

To Larry, Jim, Junelle and Johnnie,

I was sadden to hear of Martha passing. She was one of the kindest, gentlest woman I ever knew. The last time I talked with Martha was one Sunday morning when I took Communion to her in the nursing home. That was before I moved to League City, TX. I will never forget her and my Prayers goes with your families.

My heart goes out to your families in Sympathy and Friendship. When someone loses a loved one who has meant so much for so many years, it's hard t know how to begin expressing words of sympathy and comfort. And I want you to know that I care much more than I could ever find words to tell you. I can only say that because you're so important to me, your sorrow touches me deeply.

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all  of which have the potential to turn a life around. People come into our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. Embrace all equally!

To Martha’s Family,

What a precious Christian woman Martha was. She always had a sweet smile and kind word for everyone. I remember her so well, growing up in the First Christian Church.   May God bless each of you during your time of grief.
