~ Words of Care and Concern From Family and Friends ~

Mr. Gray, My name is Katie Carlton, your mother was a dear friend to me. I worked at the Pauls Valley Daily Democrat for many years and had the opportunity to meet your mother when she brought stories in to be published in our Sunday editions. We became fast friends. She would give me her stories to read before she took them to the publisher. When she agreed to have her stories put into a book she was on cloud nine, we would sit out in the back stairwell and laugh and laugh about the adventures she had. We talked about what to name her book and I helped her pick the artwork for the cover, I was honored to be someone who's opinion she valued. When her book first came out she autographed my copy for me and this is something I will always cherish. I loved her so much. After she became sick I would call and talk to her and one day several months back I got a call from her, she called to tell me goodbye and that she loved me, it touched me in a way I can't explain. Your momma was a very special lady and will be missed by so many people. I pray that you and your family will find peace in knowing that she is in a better place. I am so glad that I had the opportunity to meet such a wonderful lady, my life is greater for having known her.

God Bless You

Katie Carlton

To the family of Arne & Betty,

I met Arne and Betty many years ago when Arne came to work with my dad, Joseph Hill. There are so many memories with these two precious people. They were fun and full of life! It doesn't surprise me that they left only days apart.

I wish I'd known before and I would have come to their memorial service. Please know that your family is in my prayers. The world will not be the same without them.

Remembering them,

Laurie Hill Sloan
