Emma Juanita Wood

Emma Juanita Wood Tolar, of Houston, formerly of Pauls
Valley, was born July 16, 1916 in Baillvan, New York to John Wesley Wood
and Minnie Bell Hammond Wood. She passed away October 17, 2005 in Houston,
Texas at the age of 89 years.
She was married to James Elder Tolar at Benton, Louisiana on February 5,
1955. She was a typesetter for many different newspapers including, Maude
News, Ada News, Monroe, Louisiana News. She worked for the Shreveport
Times for 18 years and during that time she was a member of the rescue
dive team. She retired from the Houston Chronicle after 23 years. Juanita
was a member of the International Typographical Union for over 60 years.
Juanita was preceded in death by her father, John Wesley Wood in 1961; her
mother, Minnie Bell Hammond Wood in 1978; her husband, James Tolar in June
1997; 3 brothers, William "Bill" Arnold Wood, Paul Hammond Wood, and John
Wesley Wood, Jr.; and 1 sister, Marguerite Louise Wood.
Surviving family include her 2 sons, John Stalnaker & his wife Billie of
Shreveport, La; and Jack Stalnaker of Houston, Texas; 3 grandsons, 1
granddaughter, and 1 great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 21, 2005 at 2:00 pm at the
Stufflebean Chapel. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the
direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
