George M. Roberson

George M. Roberson, Jr., a long-time resident of Pauls
Valley, was born October 14, 1925 in Marietta, Oklahoma to George M. and
Velma L. (Mathews) Roberson.
He passed away September 5, 2007 in Burleson, Texas at the age of 81
years.
George is a 1944 graduate of Marietta High School. After graduating he
served in the United States Navy and earned the rank of Gunner's Mate
Third Class. His tour of duty was from August 25, 1944 until his
separation from the Navy on June 29, 1946.
After his tour of duty he furthered his education by attending
Southeastern State College where he earned his Bachelor of Science
degree in 1951 in Industrial Arts.
George M. Roberson, Jr. was married to Lena Fay Banks in Marietta,
Oklahoma on April 25, 1959.
In the early ‘50’s he taught Shop in Claremore Schools and later moved
to Paoli then to make Pauls Valley their home in 1965. For a time George
was Yard Manager for an Oklahoma City Lumber Company as well as a Wire
Line Operator and Truck Driver for P. G. A. C. For over 20 years he
worked with the Department of Human Services where he worked as a Social
Worker until his retirement in 1988.
George was a member of the Masonic Valley Lodge #6 in Pauls Valley and
was just recently presented his 25 year pin; he earned his 32nd Degree
in the Scottish-Rite in McAlester as well as in the York-Rite in Norman;
later he was initiated into the India Shrine; Order of the Eastern Star
Pauls Valley Chapter #183; Elks Lodge #1874 and American Legion Post
#136.
He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Pauls Valley. He was
preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Lena Fay Roberson on December
15, 2004.
Surviving family include his daughter and her husband, Georgann and Tony
Spivey; a grandson, Jeremy Spivey, all of Cleburne, Tx; two
step-grandchildren, Tamara Spivey and Derrick Spivey; one brother, David
Roberson of San Antonio, Tx.; one nephew, James Andrew Culwell, of
Marietta, Ok; two nieces, Jan Collins of Arizona and Gaye Dewbre of
Courtney, Ok.; a grand-nephew, John Clifford Dewbre, of Courtney, Ok.;
and cousins, Mary Frances Dunlap and Helen Kopf.
A special time for family and friends to gather for visitation will be
Friday evening, September 7, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at
Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home. Usual visitation hours will still be
available.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 8, 2007 at 11:00 am at
Stufflebean Chapel of Remembrance officiated by Bro. Tim Bowen.
Interment will be at 3:00 p.m. at the Lake View Cemetery at Marietta,
Oklahoma, all under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home. |
