In Loving Memory Of J. R. "Punch" Richardson, Jr.
Funeral services for J. R. "Punch" Richardson, Jr. will be conducted 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 3, 2005 in the First Baptist Church of Pauls Valley with Dr. Joe Elam officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home. Richardson was born May 27, 1919 in Pauls Valley to Bob and Willie Lee Richardson. He died February 1, 2005 at the Pauls Valley General Hospital. On December 30, 1938, Richardson married Anna Jane Suggs in Pauls Valley where he lived all of his life. Of this union were born two daughters, Deanna and Susan. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Pauls Valley. Richardson graduated from Pauls Valley High School in 1937. After graduation he went to work at Tyler & Simpson Wholesale Grocery Company as a salesman. He left there in 1947 to work for Ozmun & Company out of Oklahoma City in sales. In 1962 Ozmun & Company sold to Affiliated Food Stores, Inc. where he worked in retail store development. He retired from Affiliated Food Stores, Inc. in 1981. He then went to work for Pratt Food Stores of Shawnee, OK. part time as Retail Store Development Director. Among his accomplishments in life, Punch received the Kiwanis Cup Award for having the highest point on graduation from Pauls Valley High School. He was very active in sports: football, basketball, and track. He played on the 1935 football team that won State Championship and Bi-State Championship after beating Breckenridge, Texas in Ft. Worth, Texas. He was captain of the basketball team that won two big-five conference titles. He was very active in playing softball and independent basketball. He was a member of the Oklahoma Officials Association and refereed football and basketball for 25 years. He was an avid golfer; a member of the Pauls Valley Men's Golf Association, a member of the Oklahoma Senior Golf Association, where he and partner A. D. Woolsey won championship two times. Punch was very active in the First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School Class for over 50 years. He held many committee positions in the church in his lifetime of service in the church, which was all of his life. He gave his life and services to the Lord in 1929 at the age of 10. He attended the First Baptist Church all of his life. He loved his family and friends and tried to be of service wherever needed: in the church, to his friends and his family. "May God Bless You All" were his parting words. He was preceded in death by: his mother and dad; two brothers, Dick and Herbert Richardson; sister, Cleo Pratt; his wife of 52 years, Anna Jane (Suggs) Richardson and a great-grandson, Cole Garland. Surviving family include - his daughter, Deanna Boney and her husband, Steve, and their family; his granddaughter, Jennifer Lucas and her husband, Dallas; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Taylor and Karis; grandson, John "Hoot" Garland and his wife, Carrie; great-grandchildren, Sage, Schley and ShiAnn and granddaughter, Sarah Stevens and her husband, Radley; his daughter, Susan Thompson and her husband, Ed,and their family: grandchildren, Brett Thompson, April Thompson and Travis Thompson and his wife, Kim; great-grandchildren, Mady, Tyler and Lexy.
