In Loving Memory Of

Evelyn Grant Pyeatt

Evelyn Grant Pyeatt, of Pauls Valley, died December 22 at Grace Living Center in Norman. Services will be 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 27, at First Presbyterian Church in Pauls Valley, with Rev. Tom Buzbee officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Pyeatt was born to A. D. "Dick" Grant and Hazel (Alexander) Grant on November 8, 1915 in Coalgate, Ok. After graduating from Coalgate High School in May, 1931, at age 15, she began her long career in the abstract business, during which she met her husband, George R. "Bud" Pyeatt. Their only son Bill was born on December 31, 1950.

One of her first jobs was as a field abstractor with Carter Oil Company in Carmi, Illinois. She worked in this capacity for several years, until 1950, when she and her sister, Vivian, opened their own abstract company, Valley Abstract, in their hometown of Coalgate. After Vivian's death in 1997, Evelyn continued to operate the business until, at 88, illness forced her to retire.

In the early years of her abstract career she worked in different states and developed a love for seeing new places. One of her greatest joys was traveling with her friends and family. After Bud died in 1970, she continued to take trips with a group of friends and especially enjoyed travels with her granddaughter Lindsey. A favorite destination was Las Vegas, a place she visited several times a year when possible. She was quite fond of the slot machines, in particular, family members say. Her full time "hobby" was the Valley Abstract. She loved serving the folks of Coal County.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Bill Grant, and her sister Vivian Grant Pasquali. She is survived by son Bill Pyeatt and wife Sharon of Norman; granddaughter, Lindsey Hart and husband Brandon of Oklahoma City, and step-granddaughter, Jordan Schornick of Norman; niece, Susan Henderson and husband Phil of Pauls Valley; and nephew, Tony Pasquali.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions can be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation at 825 N. E. 13th in Oklahoma City, Ok. 73104, or to the Public School Foundation of your choice.
