In Loving Memory Of
Arne Moe

Arne Moe, of Pauls Valley Oklahoma, died on March 20,
2008, at the age of 84. He was born in Oslo, Norway on August 2, 1923.
His parents divorced when he was about three years of age. He grew up
with his mother and one older brother. Arne graduated from high school
in Oslo in 1941. Due to the war and the German occupation, which at that
time had lasted more than one year, conditions in Norway were extremely
difficult in every way.
Eventually Arne, like many other young men, escaped to Sweden where he
joined the free Norwegian army units training for the eventual freedom
of Norway. He returned to Norway as a sergeant. After the war he was
accepted at the Royal Academy in Copenhagen, Denmark to study
architecture.
After five years in Denmark he graduated as a licensed architect and
then emigrated to the United States of America. He worked for
architectural firms in Philadelphia and San Francisco, and eventually
established his own firm in Anchorage, Alaska. After several years in
Alaska, he joined Betty Treat, whom he had met in Anchorage, and settled
in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, where he continued his career in partnership
with a local architect.
Arne was very musically talented and as a youngster was a very
accomplished accordion player. He was also great on the harmonica.
Anyone who knew Arne would say he was a determined man, with a keen
sense of humor and pleasant attitude. As he would go about his daily
errands (or "missions", as he called them), you would see him whirl
about Pauls Valley in his blue truck. Arne will be missed by all his
family and friends.
Arne was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, and his wife
Betty, whom he lovingly cared for.
He is survived by one brother, sister-in-law, one son and
daughter-in-law, two grandsons, and four nieces. Arne is also survived
by Betty's many family members, whom he considered his own .
A memorial service to honor his life will be held on a date yet to be
announced. Services for cremation were under the direction of
Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home in Pauls Valley. |
