In Loving Memory Of

Mearl Wayne "Joe" McElhaney

On February 11, 2005 God sent a host of Angels our father home. After several years of illness at the age of 67 he spent his last two weeks at home with his family and friends close by.

Mearl Wayne “Joe” McElhaney was born July 27, 1937 in McCurtain, Oklahoma to Chester McElhaney and Nellie Mae Baker McElhaney.

He spent most of his life in Pauls Valley where he had lots of friends and family. He worked as a gas attendant in his early years and drove for Colley and Company for a few years before he began to work for Oklahoma Tank Lines and spent most of his career hauling gas. He worked for SORC a few years before he retired.

Joe loved his family especially his grandchildren who he loved to spend time with.

He also loved to hunt and fish but he always had such a great love for horses.

Joe married Marie McElhaney in Pauls Valley on June 29, 1994. He attended the Light House Pentecostal Church of God.

Preceded in death by his parents Chester and Nellie Mae Baker McElhaney; his brother Gary McElhaney and baby sister, Ruth Ellen McElhaney.

Surviving family includes his wife, Marie McElhaney of the home; three children Michael Joe McElhaney and wife, Cheryl of Odessa, Texas, Tina Annett Frost and husband, Vernon of Pauls Valley, Terry Wayne McElhaney and wife, Marisa McElhaney; his children’s mother, Edith McElhaney of Pauls Valley; two brothers, Jerry McElhaney of Norman and Ricky McElhaney of Blanchard; seven sister, Shirley Corwin of Springdale, Arkansas, Carol Sue Jones of Tulsa, Margaret East of Tomball, Texas, Letha Warren of Talihina, Judy York of Norman, Vicki Reiser of Duncan and Tammy DeYong of Duncan; seven grandchildren, Cody McElhaney, Taylor and Johnny Frost, Brittany, Jacob, Mariah McElhaney and one great-granddaughter to be born in April , Alexis Nicole Frost.

Marie’s children loved and respected Joe and their Papa Joe. Many memories were made to remember a lifetime. Marie’s children and grandchildren include: Jackye Winterbottom and her son, Shawn Morrison of Pauls Valley, Janie Byrd and her two daughters, Lindsay and Haley Watts all of Pauls Valley, Jerry Morrison and his wife Jan and their son and daughter, J. D. Morrison and Misti Morrison all of Sanger, Texas, and Brian Morrison and his wife Karen and their children, Amanda, Casey and Jenny Morrison all of Pauls Valley and one step great-granddaughter, Kelsey Morrison age 2 months of Pauls Valley.

Joe and Marie were specialized Foster Parents to Alan Willard who lived with them for six years. He was one of the Hi-Lights of Joe’s life.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Stufflebean Chapel officiated by Rev. Charles Ledbetter and Rev. Jimmy Dehart. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of the Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
