Clara Pelfrey Matthews, of Pauls Valley, was born December 9, 1935 in Maysville to Frank and Avis (McGregor) Pelfrey. She grew up and attended schools in Wynnewood and Rosedale and is a graduate of the Rosedale High School.

Clara Pelfrey and Jerome Matthews were married in Purcell, Oklahoma on December 29, 1955. She worked at the Southern Oklahoma Resource Center (SORC) as Junior Cottage Housekeeper until her retirement. Pauls Valley has been her home for the past 32 years.

She passed away September 28, 2007 at Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 71 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Floyd Matthews in 1976; and a brother, John Pelfrey.

Surviving family include her husband of over 51 years, Jerome Matthews of the home; one sister, Jewel Palmertree of Wynnewood; a sister-in-law, Ruth Matthews Smith of Pauls Valley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at 2:00 pm at Stufflebean Chapel of Remembrance. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
