In Loving Memory Of

Floy B. Fleming

Floy B. Fleming died July 5, 2004 at Countryside Estates Nursing Center in Warner, Oklahoma. She was born November 15, 1912 in Bennington, Oklahoma to J. G. and Leona Sellers Alexander.

She was married to Clair Johnston in 1934 by her father, Judge Alexander of Pauls Valley. They had two children, Judy and Jimmy.

In 1954 she married Claude Fleming in Pauls Valley. He died in Ada in 1961. She moved to Pauls Valley in 3rd grade, attending public schools and graduating from Pauls Valley High School in 1930. She attended East Central in Ada for one year. In 1964 she attended the Adult Institute at Central High in Oklahoma City for commercial courses.

Floy worked as a sales clerk most of her life at Wackers, Burrs, Kirtley-Low, Cotties, Lintz, Laverne's Dress Shop and Ruby's Dress Shop, all in Pauls Valley. She also worked at Gluckman's and Dellow's in Ada, and J. C. Penney's and Martin's Shoe Store in Shepard Mall in Oklahoma City. In 1966 she went into Civil Service at the U.S. Post Office in Oklahoma City, retiring in 1975 to Pauls Valley.

She was a member of the Church of Christ since the age of 15. She taught classes and Vacation Bible School at Paul & Pine in Pauls Valley, Central in Ada, and 31st and Penn in Oklahoma City. She worked in activities of the Ladie's Bible Class at Paul & Pine, quilting, serving nursing homes and visitation and worked Bible Correspondence courses.

Floy was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal  Employees. She served as Secretary/Treasurer for Chapter 1114, Garvin & Murray Counties for 6 and a half years. She served five years as Sunshine Chairman. She was given two awards from State Fed for outstanding work as Secretary/Treasurer. She also was given a Lifetime Honorary Membership in 1997.

She was active in the Senior Citizens Center NYA building for many years. She was given a number of awards for volunteer work at the center in Pauls Valley.

Floy also had many hobbies including piano, piecing quilts, knitting, and sewing. She enjoyed bridge, canasta, and was a member of a local Birthday Club.

She is survived by one daughters, Judy Carey, two grandsons, Mike and Jimmy, two granddaughters-in-law, Kelley and Susan, and one great-granddaughter, Madison, all of Fayetteville, Arkansas. She also leaves one stepdaughter, Nedra Ince, of Richardson, Texas, one stepson, Robert Fleming, of San Antonio, Texas, a niece, Janice Alexander Nickson of Dallas, Texas, nephews, Carl Alexander of Tulsa and Richard Alexander of Lubbock, Texas, and numerous great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Fleming, her parents, J. G. and Leona Alexander, three brothers, Audie, Carl and Olyen Alexander, and one son, 1st Lt. James C. Johnston, and a son-in-law, Robert D. Carey.

Floy will be remembered as a loving and generous mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

The family invites friends to come and visit with them at the Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 7, 2004, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. The register book will also be available at regular hours of visitation.

The family has also requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorials in the name of Floy B. Fleming may be sent to the Hope Harbor Children's Home at P. O. Box 1047 in Claremore, OK. 74018 or the Paul and Pine Church of Christ at P. O. Box 476 in Pauls Valley, OK. 73075. 

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 8, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the Stufflebean Chapel. Interment will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of the Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home in Pauls Valley.
