Loyd E. Driskill

Loyd Earl Driskill, of Pauls Valley was born March 29,
1927 in Foster, Oklahoma to William Earl 'Bill' and Mary Joyce (McConnell)
Driskill.
He passed away March 14, 2005 at Purcell, Oklahoma at the age of 77 years.
A Veteran of World War II, Loyd enlisted in the Army on October 29, 1945
and began his tour of duty at Camp Fannin, Texas. During his tour he
served in Military Police 677 and earned his Rifle M-1 Sharpshooter
qualification and achieved the rank of Private First Class. Loyd also
earned the Occupation Ribbon while serving in Germany as well as the Good
Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. He was discharged at Ft. Sill,
Oklahoma on May 5, 1947.
He worked in various services stations in Pauls Valley including Field
Bros. Service Station. In 1962 he opened the Gulf Service Station in Pauls
Valley and
on May 1, 1964 Loyd was married to Joyce Mitchell in Pauls Valley,
Oklahoma where they made their home and raised their seven children. Loyd
operated the Gulf Service Station until 1979. In 1981 he moved his
business to South Chickasaw where he operated the Loyd's DX Service
Station until he retired in November 2001.
He was a member of Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 granddaughter, Stephanie
Wadsworth; 1 sister, Lavinia Winn.
Surviving family include his wife of nearly 41 years, Joyce, of the home;
2 sons, Danny Driskill and his wife, Karen, of Stratford and David
Driskill and his wife, Lori, of Paoli; 5 daughters, Dianna Farris and her
husband, Ryan, of Norman, Debbie Triplitt of Pauls Valley, Mary Walker of
Ardmore, Rita Boling and her husband, Mike, of Corona, California and
Sonnia Godwin and her husband, Leon, of Pooleville; 1 brother, Dewayne
Driskill of Old Mexico; 2 sisters, Lois Brooks of Wynnewood and Lahoma
Bechtel of Pauls Valley; 11 grandchildren, LaJuana Choate, Ginger Waller,
Kimberly Godwin, Chris Godwin, Jamie Driskill, Jourdan Driskill, Ashleigh
Smedley, Alexandria Caitlyn Driskill, Clay Randolph Driskill, Daniel Glen
Triplitt and Angie Standifer; 3 step-grandchildren, Travis, Cinda and
Meagan.
Also surviving are 13 great-grandchildren, Jeffery Miller, T. J. Miller,
Jimmie Wright, Justin Wright and Jessica Wright, Billie Waller, Travis
Quick, Kevin Quick, Lauren Godwin, Ashley Godwin, Kyleigh Smedley, Rowdy
Bronc Standifer and Cole DeQuasie; 1 step great-grandchild, McKeala; and 4
great-great-grandchildren, Drake Wright, Jimmie (Duece) Wright, II, Dalton
Wright and Blain Quick.
Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, March 17, 2005 at 11:00
am at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery officiated by Rev. Kent Wooster. Burial will
be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey
Funeral Home. |
