In Loving Memory Of

C. P. Dewberry

C. P. Dewberry, of Pauls Valley was born January 27, 1922 in Elmore City, Oklahoma to Henry P. and Beulah Moon Dewberry. He passed away August 10, 2005 at Pauls Valley, Oklahoma at the age of 83 years.

C. P. lived in the Elmore City and Pauls Valley area most of his life. He graduated from Elmore City High School and earned an associate degree from Murray State College. He was married to Mildred Wenona "Nonie" Brown at Pauls Valley in the 1st Presbyterian Church on December 6, 1941.

C. P. served in the U. S. Army from 1944 until 1946. He was a Technical Sergeant and served in the Western Pacific where he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal and One Bronze Cluster. After returning home, he and Nonie farmed East of Elmore City before moving to Pauls Valley in 1947. They owned and operated a Grocery Store and Service Station on the East side of Pauls Valley until 1951 when they owned and operated the Dewberry Grocery on Jackson Hill until 1975. C. P. then went into sales until his retirement.

He was a member of the 1st Baptist Church in Pauls Valley. C. P. served many years as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher of the Junior High Boys Class and Church Treasurer. He also served on many of the church committees. C. P. was an avid golfer and won several club championships. He loved to play dominoes with his friends. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry & Beulah Dewberry; 2 brothers, Alton Dewberry and William Dewberry; 2 sisters, Estell Bost and Marvine Jackson.

Survived by his wife of over 63 years, Wenona "Nonie" Dewberry of the home in Pauls Valley; 2 children, Freta Jo Pratt & her husband John of Pauls Valley; and Charles Parker Dewberry of Norman; 1 sister, Estelena "Lady" Satterwhite of Elmore City; 2 sisters in law, Pearl Dewberry of Elmore City; and Ruth Dewberry of Norman; 3 grandchildren, Terry Jordan & her husband James of Boston, MA.; Summer Dewberry of Norman; and Clinton P. Dewberry of Norman; host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 13, 2005 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Pauls Valley officiated by Dr. Joe Elam. Burial will be at Elmore City Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
