In Loving Memory Of

Luella Daugherty

Luella (Lou) Daugherty was called to heaven to join her Jesus and beloved husband C.R. on Thursday, October 13, 2005 while at the Pauls Valley Health Care Facility, a nursing home in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. In the final six months of her life she had suffered with the repair of a broken hip and failing memory due to dementia. She never lost her spirit or her love. She was always surrounded by her family and friends that dearly loved her and which she loved with all of her big heart.

Luella joined a host of family when she reached those pearly gates, including her parents: Earl and Myrtle Moore Chandler; her husband of 52 years; 2 brothers: J.T. and Kenneth Chandler; a nephew: Don Tate and niece: Karen Bowles; a brother-in-law: Dave Tate and sister-in-law: Louise Chandler.

Survivors include her two sons: Robert Daugherty and his wife Dessie of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; and Phil Daugherty and his wife Linda of Okmulgee, Oklahoma; three grandchildren: Shelby Daugherty Cunningham and her husband James, and Jason Daugherty all of Pauls Valley; and Dr. Jamie Daugherty, M.D. of Jones, Oklahoma. She has 6 great-grandchildren which she adored: Christian, Challan and J.E. Bailey, Austin Cunningham, Jade and Nashton Daugherty all of Pauls Valley. She was also survived by 4 brothers: James Chandler of Pauls Valley; Edward Chandler and his wife Minnie; and Paul Chandler and his wife Betty all of County Line, Oklahoma; and Earl D. Chandler of Duncan, Oklahoma; 3 sisters: Naomi Tate, Neva Bowles and her husband Billy all of Pauls Valley, and Eva Griffin and husband Ralph of Moore, Oklahoma. She was blessed with numerous more nieces and nephews.

She was born in Roland, Oklahoma on May 4, 1922 as the second of 10 children to Earl and Myrtle Chandler. Lou was raised in the oil field around Seminole, Oklahoma. She and her older brother James graduated together from Mt. View High School in 1941. They also each married the love of their lives a year later in a double ceremony on June 9, 1942 in Seminole, Oklahoma where she became the beloved wife of Clarence Robert Daugherty. She traveled with C.R. while he was in the service and was overjoyed when they started a family. She believed this was the job she was chosen to do. She and her family moved to Pauls Valley in 1961 from Velma, Oklahoma to take over Daugherty Insurance. Luella was a homemaker in the truest sense. She loved cooking and sewing for her friends and family. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She and Clarence were always very involved with all the grand kid’s activities. She was a faithful member of the Assembly of God Church in Pauls Valley. Her great claim to fame was her beautiful ceramics and talent as a master artist in silk floral arrangements. Her collection of red birds is in the hundreds and was admired by all who witnessed it.

Services were held at Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home on Saturday, October 15, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. In true family fashion, her brother-in-law Reverend Billy Bowles and her brother Reverend Earl D. Chandler officiated. Beautiful organ music was provided by her nephew Gary Tate, and inspired vocals were provided by Alice McGough. Pallbearers were nephews Rick Tate, Joe Chandler, Mike Chandler, Rick Wells, Dean Painer and Gary Tate. Interment was at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home. She will always be missed and loved dearly.
