Dorothy June Schafer Cox, of Pauls Valley passed away February 22, 2010
in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma at the age of 74 years. She was born November
5, 1935 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Leo Abraham and Mary May Mercer
Schafer.
Dorothy was raised in Wynnewood and was a Wynnewood High School
graduate. She furthered her education with a Bachelor's Degree from
O.S.U. and a Master's Degree from East Central University in Ada,
Oklahoma.
Dorothy June Schafer was married to John M. Cox in Wynnewood, Oklahoma
on June 2, 1956. She moved to California, from Pauls Valley with her
husband and daughter and began teaching in 1986. Dorothy was a retired
learning disabilities teacher for the Whitebead School in Garvin County,
Oklahoma and of the Fontana school system in Fontana, California.
Dorothy retired from teaching in 2004. Following the loss of her
daughter, she returned to the Pauls Valley and Wynnewood area and has
been attending the First Church of God in Pauls Valley. Dorothy enjoyed
going to Church and Sunday diners as well as shopping, collecting dolls,
traveling with her sorority sisters, the animals on the family farm,
especially her kitty cats, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Dorothy belonged to Kappa Kappa Iota, a national teachers Sorority and
held several offices, including, president, vice-president, secretary
and treasurer of Epsilon Chapter in Fontana, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Leo Schafer; her
husband, John M. Cox; and a daughter, Leah Angela Cox.
Surviving family include her three sons, John Michael Cox and his wife,
Renee, of Wichita Falls, Texas; Justin William Cox of Pauls Valley; and
Scott Alan Cox of Pryor; 4 grandchildren, Jessica Nicole Cox Stokes and
her husband, Mike of Pauls Valley; Brianna Morgan Cox, Quade Alan Cox
and Hunter Austin Wyatt Cox, all of Pryor; a great grand daughter,
Jaylye Renee Stokes of Pauls Valley; 2 brothers, Darold Schafer of
Wynnewood and Danny Schafer of Choctaw; a foster son, Noel Tibbals of
San Diego, California.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 11:00 am at
Stufflebean Chapel of Remembrance officiated by Rev. Terry Clayton.
Interment will be at Cox Family Cemetery under the direction of
Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
