Merkel Anona Lemons Colson entered this world in Paris,
Texas on October 27, 1918. She peacefully exited this world in her sleep
November 26, 2006 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma.
In recent years she had resided in Stillwater, Oklahoma; Springfield,
Missouri; Branson, Missouri; and Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, leaving fond
memories of her compassion and wit at each location. After retirement
Merkel enjoyed helping others through volunteer work. She was also
active in the Church of Christ.
She was best known as an accomplished seamstress. For several years her
creative sewing talent appeared in local dance recitals. Her garments
were also awarded first place and grand champion honors in Garvin County
Extension Homemakers competitions. She began her public sewing career in
her home. Later she had two different business locations in Pauls
Valley. One was next door to Kelley’s Feed Store and the other was
across the street from Lintz Department Store.
Beloved wife, mother and grandmother, her husband Jesse L. Colson
preceded her in death. She is survived by daughters Neva Jo Tucker,
Pauls Valley; Arnola C. Ownby and husband Jerry Steve Ownby, Branson,
Missouri; Remona K. Colson, Bartlesville, Oklahoma; grandsons Steven
Cory Ownby, Springfield Missouri; Alton Ray Tucker, Madill, Oklahoma;
and one great-grandaughter, Tamarita Cheyenne Tucker.
The family will grieve in private. Those wishing to honor her life are
requested to contribute to Alzheimer’s Research or the Oklahoma
Alzheimer’s Association, 6465 South Yale, Suite 312, Tulsa, OK

Services were conducted by Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home in Pauls
Valley.
