Brady

James Richard "Jim" Brady, of Paoli was born October
24, 1933 in Penick, Kentucky to George W. and Charlie Mae (Riley) Brady
and was raised in Lebanon, Kentucky.
He passed away October 20, 2007 at Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 73
years.
Jim began his Military Career in the United States Navy January 6, 1959.
He and Peggy Speerbrecher met while both were serving in the U. S. Navy
and on December 17, 1969 they were married in Charleston, South
Carolina. During his career he served on the U. S. S. Hawkins DDR 873;
the U. S. S. Lloyd Thomas DD 764; the U. S. S. Calcaterra DER 390; U. S.
S. Sellers DDG11; the U. S. S. Wainwright DOG 28; and at his retirement
was serving on the U. S. S. Mount Baker AE 34. He also served 2 years
NAS, Corpus Christi, Texas and NAS Atlanta where he was awarded the Navy
Achievement Medal for Distinguished service aboard the U. S. S.
Wainwright. He retired from the U. S. Navy on February 16, 1978.
Paoli has been his home since 1978 and was a member of Paoli First
Baptist Church. Jim began serving as Deputy with the Garvin County
Sheriff's Office. He retired from G.C.S.O. in 1990 after 10 years of
service. He never met a stranger even in dealing with prisoners through
the Garvin County Sheriff’s Office.
He loved spending time with his family as well as gardening. He was a
past Civil Defense director for Paoli.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Richard Wayne Brady.
Surviving family include his wife of 37 years, Peggy, of the home; three
children, Bobby Lee Brady of Mitchellsburg, Kentucky; J. Michael Brady
and his wife, Deb, of Quakertown, Pennsylvania; and Brian Brady of Pauls
Valley; one brother, George Brady, Jr. and his wife, Wanda, of Florence,
Kentucky; one sister, Barbara Tackett of Dansville, Kentucky; and a host
of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 25, 2007 at 2:00 pm at
Paoli First Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Chuck Samples and Rev. Tim
Duncan. Interment will be at Paoli Cemetery under the direction of
Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
