In Loving Memory Of

Dr. Dan J. Albright

Dr. Dan J. Albright, 86, a longtime resident of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 9, 2005. He died at the Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

He was born on October 5, 1918 in his parent's home in Murray County, about 7 miles Northwest of Sulphur, Oklahoma. He was the second of eight children of Thomas C. and Bessie Jayne Albright. His early childhood was spent in Benton County, Arkansas, near Gravette. The family, now 6 children, moved back to Oklahoma in early 1928 and Dan attended Sulphur Public Schools, graduating from high school in 1935. He farmed, attended business school and worked a few months in Wichita, Ks. In November 1940 he moved to Washington, D.C. and worked in Navy Enlisted Records Department until February 1942 when he was called to duty in the Naval Reserve. He served as a yeoman in Naval Intelligence until September 1945 when he enrolled at Texas A&M University studying veterinary medicine. He was awarded a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine Degree in June 1950. He worked in Texas awhile until moving the family to Pauls Valley in October 1951. With Opal's assistance, he practiced Veterinary Medicine for 48 years before retiring on June 30, 1998. He met Opal Waggoner from Henderson, Texas while in Personnel Records in Washington, D. C. They were married on June 27, 1942.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an older brother, Clyde Albright. He was a loving father, a man of character and integrity, one also of 'steel and velvet'.

Surviving family include his loving wife of 63 years, Opal, of the home; 2 daughters, June Wilkins & her husband Darin, of Encinitas, Ca. and Judy Wesselhoft & her husband, Oklahoma State Representative, Paul Wesselhoft, of Moore; 2 sons, Dr. Tom Albright & his wife Mary, of Springdale, Ar, and John Albright, of Las Vegas, Nv; 10 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Ms. Irene Fine, of Oklahoma City and Ms. Nadine Adamo, of Carrolton, Tx; 4 brothers, Tom Albright, of Lake Dallas, Tx., Kirby Albright & his wife Lee, of Rockwall, Tx; Joe Albright & his wife June, of Sulphur, Ok; and Ray Albright, of Oklahoma City.

Pallbearers were Glen Murray, Duane Navarre, Glen Wickware, Charles Vann, Ross Puckett and Harold Miller. Honorary pallbearers were Jason, Hillary & Bethney Albright, Devin Vergo, Dane Wilkins, Justin and Holly Wesselhoft, and Crista Albright, his grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 11, 2005 at 10:00 am at Stufflebean Chapel officiated by Dr. Robert J. Kanary and Rev. Larry Cornforth. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
