1926 ~ In the Spring of 1926 Stufflebean Funeral Home was founded by Jim and Anne Stufflebean, when they moved to Pauls Valley from Noble, Oklahoma. The couple bought the old Williams Furniture and Undertaking Company on East Paul, which was near today’s Chamber of Commerce office; about a half block west of the Railroad Depot. In those days, undertaking was generally combined as a sideline with a furniture store, a hardware store or a Livery stable. Stufflebean Funeral Home was the first exclusive Funeral Home between Dallas and Oklahoma City. Two years after opening their doors, Jim and Anne bought an old hospital which stood where the present building now stands, at 500 North Willow, and moved the business there. Of three sons and two daughters, Noble Stufflebean was the only child of Jim and Anne who joined the business in 1929 when he graduated from high school. He worked with his father until his father passed away in 1955 and Noble became the soul owner and served this area for the next thirty years. 1964 ~ In 1964, the old hospital building was razed and the present facilities built. 1985 ~ On January 1, 1985, ownership changed to Tomas E. Criswell and David Coffey and family; Noble stayed on with the business in a semi-retired capacity. Later, in April 2000, Liston David Coffey, a fourth generation Funeral Director, and wife, Linda, became the owners. David Coffey's family has served Oklahoma families since 1890 in funeral service 2005 ~ Later the name changed to Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home since the Coffey family had made Pauls Valley their home for about 20 years at that time. Now, and through the years past~ The Stufflebean Family and now the Coffey Family emphasize a home-like atmosphere while offering the largest facility in the area as well as offering the finest in Funeral and Cremation Services along with the finest Merchandise including Caskets, Burial Vaults and two piece grave liners which more and more cemeteries are requiring.
